Thank you so much for sharing this. This is certainly a very helpful article for me as I started the campus newspaper about a year ago now. Journalism is both more difficult and, quite honestly, more fun than I imagined it would be. I'm definitely glad to have a newspaper that is entirely independent from the school as of right now, though—the "holy grail" that is editorial independence. At the same time, however, I am still considering how best to move forward with the newspaper.
Becoming an official school organization would likely help us to better reach our goal of increasing communication across the campus, but at the same time, losing editorial independence is undesirable.
